My '68 427-390 coupe arrived yesterday. Woo Hoo! Now the fun begins! I will be really going over it with a fine tooth comb, but it looks like most of the stuff that I will need to take care of will be in the interior. The car wouldn't start without a jump yesterday when it was loaded on and off the trailer, so I'll try charging the battery today and if that doesn't do it, I'll just replace it and check out the charging system. For those who are interested, it's a #'s car, Cordovan Maroon, PS, frame is really solid, clean. It's got driver quality paint and in going through the receipts and docs, I found an NCRS judging sheet from 1989 where it scored 92.8. I'll take some pics within the next few days and try to post them for everyone to see. Of course I'll be seeking information from the forum experts on how to make this car more correct. Thanks in advance to all of the C3 bretheren.
My 68 427/390 also came to me on a flatbed with a dead battery! Coincidence? I don't think so! First thing I did was run out and buy a new battery, started her up and drove around a bit. Next day, new battery was dead, so I ran out and bought a battery charger (You are going to need one of these!!!!).
68's are notorious for battery drains, and the prime suspect is the wiper system.
So get a battery charger and a battery shutoff/cutoff for the battery. The battery cutoff is an important safety feature. Reduces the chance of an electrical fire and will also keep your battery alive.

Interesting. My 68 can sit a couple months w/o a chager on it and still crank fine. I'd say three months or so. After that, she starts to act sluggish. Wipers, radio, lights, and clock are fully functional, BTW. I do have a battery tender for her, but I haven't hooked it up yet.

Congrats on your 68. I have a 68 LeMans Blue 427/390 coupe and love it. Check the middle storage compartment in the rear. It is equipped with a light. If the latch isn't making a solid contact the light can remain on. The factory even supplied an adaptor to assure that a proper contact was made to pevent the light from coming on.

Well, I do have a charger, but under further review, it looks like the battery is just old. The date of installation according to the label, is January of 1999. I'm charging the battery now, but I think I'll pick up a new battery in the next day or so and get it on the road. Once the new battery is installed, I'll do some more diagnosis on the charging/electrical system to see if there are any additional issues. I did notice that the courtesy lights do not activate when the doors are open, but will turn on using the headlight switch.
BTW, sorry for not posting pics yet. I want to get the car out of the garage and take photos from all sides. Bear with me and I'll get the pics on the forum as soon as I can.
OK, put the new battery in, started it up, and away we go! What a great feeling! I checked the charging system (All good) now I can focus on some of the other items. Question: I noticed that my tach makes a "ticking" sound, which will rise in frequency as the rpm's increase. Time for a new cable or what????
