Was a long day of transporting, minor hiccups, and sore backs, but I finally got my hands on a 454. The big block dream continues.
Got a great deal on it, from a guy who builds them. Nothing like walking into a garage and seeing four 454s the floor.
Put it on a 750lb stand, big mistake (got the correct size/length bolts after two trips to Lowe's ). It flexed enough to look pretty dangerous, so I will have to find a 1000lb stand this week. At least I got a stand for the 350 when I finally pull it out. Can't wait to get this thing into the '69!
Hopefully I can start the teardown next weekend! Might not have to bore it out. Let the insanity begin
I am going to shoot for 400-500 hp/ft-lb of torque. That will be easier if I end up needing to bore the cylinders, but I may not have to. The heads are marine heads and may breathe well, I'll see what I've got when I tear it down.
I do unfortunately have a cast-iron crank. For my goals, will I need to move to a forged crank?
