Default Stahl, Hedman or Stainless Works Headers w/Side Pipes?

I'm considering installing stock '69 side pipes on my Vette. Yes, I know its going to cost me a few HP but I think the cool factor will be worth it. Anybody have experience/tips in using either one of these headers with side pipes?

If you can afford Stahls then I would go with them. They get better power results than the Hedmans and they look good. I am running the Hedmans and I like them alot. I got the uncoated version so they kind of look like crap but it won't matter once they are wrapped.

Are you planning on going totally custom on your sidepipes?

I used the Hedmans, test fitted/tweaked then sent to Jet-Hot for Sterling coating, wished I had gone with Jet-Hot's 2000Degree coating cause the Sterling is dulling on the back two header tubes on each side. Fabbed up my own sidepipes.

As Sam Kinison (RIP) said in that Dangerfield movie "I like the way you think"

If you have a BB with aluminum heads, forget about the Hedman headers, they don't match up to the exhaust ports.

Thanks for the feedback so far. I'm planning to use the 2-1/4" diameter side pipes fron Sweet-Thunder. Anybody have experience with these?

b71vette: Your pipes look sweet! Do you use the stock covers with those? I'm planning on using the fiberglass reproductions. Ever thought about making another set?

groovyjay: Like your car! It has that SR-71 look to it.

I guess Stainless Works also make headers for side exhaust. But no pics on their web site.

Anybody else have pics of their installation? By the way mine is a small block.

Yes I am using a set of OEM side covers which I have had since 1974, not perfect but good enough. Fabbing up the 3" side pipes was a time consumiing job for me, it is a tight fit and needs to be done on the car. The mandrel bends were purchased from Summit and side tubing from the local muffler shop. I don't have the time right now to fab another set. Thanks for asking though.
