That original air cleaner on my '74 is pretty ugly. I think I'll replace it with a simple 12 inch chrome air cleaner but hold on to the origininal.
What do you think?
Strictly personal taste, but the cowl induction air cleaner is unique and only used for 3 years. If the rubber seal is flattened out, it can get ugly. The old muscle cars with ram air had ugly air cleaners also, but I think they look pretty cool, especially when every car you see at a show these days has the 14" chrome air cleaner, kind of boring. I sectioned 1 1/2" in height from mine for aluminum intake clearance and my rubber seal just touches the bottom of the hood without folding over, helps the appearance a little. They also sell a chrome lid for the stock air cleaner.

That's a nice look. Once i start getting under the hood that is what i was thinking about going with instead of the chrome one the guy put on mine. Thanks for giving me the final nudge
When we get around to rebuilding our engine, the stock air cleaner's getting 86'd...But that's because we're going to put on a Performer intake and Vortec heads, which will necessitate a drop base air cleaner.
But I do have to agree that the Dual snorkel style air cleaner on the '74 is unique...
