Default Conv. Lid Latching Problem

The narrow flanges on inside top of both fenders are damaged and the outer Convertible deck Lid latches will not trigger closed. The small finger on the latch normally hits the fender flange and causes it to rotate and latch to the body bracket. The flange looks to be fiberglass only? Should there be a metal reinforcement on or under the flange or is it just fiberglass. Any quick fixes?

Yes, there should be a metal reinforcement, like a C clamp that is pop rivited to the flange so it covers both top and bottom.

There is a metal guide riveted to the fiberglass body lip.

What are those two brackets bolted to the fender and/or B pillar? One looks like some kind of bumper or gasket and the other looks like some kind of guide or latch.

My 68 deosn't have either...

Interesting. I imagine the plate with the round hole keeps the rear lid from decapitating the passengers in a rear end collision , much like the rear hood restraints on newer cars. A striker on each side of my lid goes through the hole in the plate and the plates are mounted to a structural member. I'll look at the black plate with the 3 bolts later to see what it does.
