Default My Introduction

I am not quite sure this is the right place for this but I will put it here anyway. If it needs to be somewhere else, could a Mod please move it?

My name is Tim, I am 18 years old and I have liked Corvettes since I was probably 5. I always said I would own one and I will, eventually. I first discovered this site when I clicked a link some time ago about a boy (Tyler) with a heart problem I believe it was. Until then I never realised what kind of family Corvette owners really are. I felt, and still feel, proud to be a future member of a family like this. I have grown up around old muscle cars, my Grandfather has a 1926 Ford Model T that he just rebuilt and my Dad has a 1982 Corvette (which is my reason for putting this thread in this part of the forum) that is getting better and better.
I can remember when I was little having posters of Corvettes everywhere, I would always point them out, and would always wave at Corvette owners (Started "The Wave" as a young child) and still do. Guess I am just a 'Vette owner at heart.
Anyway, I just wanted to give a little background on why I joined this forum espacially not owning a Corvette myself. I have an amazing amount of respect for a group of people who could do something as self-less as those who participated in the drive for Tyler. Even though he is gone (I saw the update thread) I know everyone will always remember that.
After waiting three hours for my confirmation e-mail I am now proud to say that I am an official member of the Corvette Community. Later, I will be an official member with a 'Vette, just give me a little time!

I really don't care which year I end up with as I like them all, like I said, the Corvette is my #1 Favorite car.

Tim(Mav)

[This was kind of done in a hurry but if something dosen't make sense, or if I have said things more than once, let me know and I will edit it out (if this board will allow that)]

Mav,
Welcome to the Forum!
It's probably better that you do not have a Vette yet, because you can learn alot here and be much more knowledgeable when the time comes.

Tim - stay in school, take a second language like Chinese or German (I'm serious) and major in finance in college.

If you do the above, you could not HELP but be a major asset to a hiring company in a few years, and make BIG money,

OR;

Look into UTI (Universal Technical Institute) for mechanic's school. This is the fastest way to make money;

or, thirdly;

Wyoming Tech. Full University degree in Automotive Engineering (take Chinese or German here)

This way you can afford the wife, 2.3 kids, and all the Corvettes you can stuff into your 6 car garage with shop.

You have the Corvette Virus, make the best of this energy!!!

I fell in love when I was in 8th grade. Took me a while before I got here. My first Vette was a 84 POS.

Dave

Welcome Maverick, I too wanted a Corvette when I was just about your age, ended up being 49 before I got my first Vett. This is a great place to get answers and a wealth of information. Also a good place to learn what not to do.

Welcome to our little world! IF I had joined and read this forum for even six months before I bought a car, I would have made a much wiser choice!
The car that costs the least initially will probably cost the most in the end.
Unless, like me, you enjoy the restoring process and do it all yourself, the money spent on old cars is unlimited. ENJOY!!!

Wow, I didn't expect to get so many positive posts. I figured I would get the normal "You're 18, don't get one, you will wreck it within a week!". I am glad I ran into such a great community of people! Don't worry, pics of "daddy's car" are coming! I will probably have an opportunity to get some pictures this weekend. At first I was more into the c4 and up models, but the more I saw the C3, the more it grew on me. Now, I like every model of the Corvette. I figured a C3 shouldn't be too awful hard to find in half way decent shape for a halfway decent price. I have seen a few '91s around here still going for over $20k! I really started liking the C3's when I drove the '82.. Even when he got it I really didn't like it but I drove it and fell in love!

I am planning on starting school this semester, maybe going for Network/Comm Tech. I will probably change my mind but I will stay in the Computer field I am pretty sure of that.

Again, thank you all for the kind words, warm welcome, and the help in choosing a 'Vette and fixing whatever problems I will have.. This will definately be a place I will hang around. I am a member of a Nissan forum as well (I have a 1993 240sx and a 1998 Maxima) www.nicoclub.com and everyone there is like one huge family. We pick on each other and give advice, etc.. I got the same feeling from this thread that I do when I am on NICO(Nissan Infiniti Owners Club) Anyone with a Nissan should check it out.
I PROMISE all my posts won't be this long-winded, I am just surprised at the turnout of this thread. Again, thank you all very much!

Oh, and yes, I have had 'the fever' for quite sometime now, and it is definately getting hotter. Since I joined this morning (I was at work and read on this forum ALL DAY) finding a Corvette for a decent price is all I can think about. I don't have the money for one at the moment, but that dosen't mean I can't look and dream right?!

Good to have you hear Tim. I bought my C3 when I was 19, and boy, let me tell you: I was in debt for 4 years! So be wise about it, make sure you do alot of research into the car you'll want to buy and not get in too deep. I'm just about to graduate college, and have finally paid off my 75 L82 and its the greatest feeling.

Plus, they are such easy cars to learn to work on, you will enjoy it immensely. Best of luck to ya.
