If you are asking about re-clearing the factory aluminum wheels yes all the polish and anything else needs to be removed as best you can, a while back I did mine on my '80 and it was a struggle, I removed all of what was left of the factory clear, polished then so they were like chrome using finer and finer sandpaper, when I had them as shiny as I could I then wiped 'em down with dupont prep-sol (3919S) and sprayed on some dupont chroma-clear, they looked good , really good, but it only lasted for about a year and that was with garaging the car during the winter months. Once I get this project '82 switched over I beleive I will just use a kit that I got from ZOOPS instead of clearing them again.
Ask a hot rod guy if they've ever heard of or ever used ZOOPS. Good luck, Peace,,, Moosie
I used the same stuff as Moosie, the Dupont Chromaclear. They still look great, but I admit I haven't driven that Vette much yet.
DON'T use that spray can stuff the venders sell for wheels(VHT). Tried that first and had to strip the wheels again after only 2 months, yellowed severely.
