Default t-top question

On my '76 there was velcro along the whole back side of the t-top and along the center bar. Can anyone tell me why this was? I have to decide whether to put it back or not. don't know that it does anything so any input would be great. Thanks

The previous owner had canvas t-tops... the front and back side of the t-top was held on by Velcro.... the soft side was sewn on the canvas and the other side was on the t-top frame back and front side of the t-top frame. I think you’re safe to take it off with lacquer thinner.

Its not original, and if you dont have anything now that will fit in its place, it can be removed.
