I am getting an edlebrock rpm performer intake - going to mate it with a holly carb. It will go on my '79 L82 with a stock hood.
I know that I need a drop base air cleaner set up. I am thinking of going with the K&N 3" filter and the top element but do not know the drop amount that I will need. I searched other threads but most delt with bb's or air gaps and a few delt with the set up that I am looking at but were different years (dont know if that matters).
please help. what is the best filter set up and drop amount for that set up. And what would be the set up for the K&N that I mentioned above.
pretty sure many others have gotten their drop base filters at local parts stores, or Summit/JEGS. I dont think you can specify the amount of drop for the base, its just a "drop base". I'm sure someone else will chime in here.
I was looking in my Jegs catalogue - it only has 1 1/4" drop base for the extreme(k&N), the others either raise or are for dominator carbs
but the std k&N filter has 13/16th and 1 1/4" drop base amounts. I was not sure if the 14" dia filter would interfere with the dist with the 1 1/4"drop.
I am running a cheap Edelbrock air cleaner I picked up from Advance auto parts. It is not an extreme drop base but I have plenty of room under the stock hood.
thanks guys. Looks like I will check it first to see what I will need. From what you guys are showing - I should do ok with something off the shelf or at the most the 1 1/4" drop. I will update with pics when I am finished.
