Hey guys,

I have a '79 that I'm pretty sure is all stock and I want to know what kind of transmission I've got. I know its a BW, but I specifically want to know if its super T-10 close ratio or not. I crawled under there Sat night and remember seeing the number 1304065906 (I think...I didn't bother to write it down).

I couldn't find any info in the archives or on the web. If anyone could help me out, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks

Crawl back under there and get the number stamped into main
case on the drivers side, its on the flange that tailshaft bolts to.
I think with this number You can ID trans. Number should start with
2 letters followed by 4or 5 numbers.Post the number back here for
help.

BW close ratio trans. on my black 79. Note the W.G.-Warner gear. Also on the drivers side on the tailshaft above the linkage it will have the BorgWarner logo. The wide ratio doesn't have any linkage in the tailshaft, just in the main case. If checking for originality the VIN is stamped on a pad at the very top pass. side. The no. Chevylit mentions on mine is G1092. Haven't deciphered that, ANYONE? Chevylit?
Easy question...is your 79 an L48? Then it will NOT be a close ratio, only available with the L82.
A magnifying glass or camera really helps in seeing some of this stuff.
Have a few other detail pics if you need em.
Mike

I didn't get a chance to look last night, but it is an L82. Things are looking up.
