Default Timing Specs

Hi everyone. Anyone got timing specs and RPM info for my '78 Shark? The new plugs are in, and the new wires are all on correctly.

I've yet to put a light to it though, and tonight's as good a time as any. This is my first HEI car, but I assume the vacuum advance is to be disconnected like on the older cars?

Cheers!

timing specs will vary depending on if you have the L48 or L82 motor.

L48 calls for 6* initial timing
L82 calls for 12* initial timing

assuming the distributor is still set up correctly you should get around 34-36* total timing when it's all in.

Make sure when checking and setting timing that the vacuum hose is disconnected from the vacuum advance can and the hose is plugged.

After setting timing and making sure it's not exceeding 34*-36* total timing when it's all in don't forget to reconnect the vacuum hose to the can.

I believe but would need to walk out to mine to find out for sure, that the timing specs are listed under the hood on the emmissions and info tag right above the left side hood latch

Duuuhhhrrrr.......This is only the 4th Shark I've owned. One would think I knew that. The first part of your reply promopted me to go try to find out which it is by looking at any labels on the car, and that's when I found/remembered it. It's an L48, but it runs so sweet I'll take it.

Cheers!
