Default Build sheet

Hi, Dear all 69 funs.
I bought 1969 corvette conv #14679S708441 on Jun-2003 at Tokyo Japan.

My car is not numbers match, transmission and engine want to know in which specification line off was done.
Might build sheet at that time be able to be issued from VIN of my car by asking the organization somewhere?
Please let me know when there is someone understanding.

Thanks,

I think I understand you, because your question is asked very often! Unfortunately there are no records available from which you can recover your buildsheet information. The only exception that I know of is if your car was originally built for export to Canada, GM Canada has records of all those vehicles. I sent my vin to GM Canada and unfortunately all i got back was a letter stating that my car was NOT originally built for Canada.

If you could find a previous owner you might be able to trace the ownership backwards to someone who knows about the car or even has records, but it would require a lot of detective work.

also, you left out a number... you wrote

should be, 194679S708441

To PRNDL and LittleJake.

Thank you for quickly response.
All content that you had written became reference very much.
I will send email to CANADA GM.

Also,I made mistake about VIN #14679S708441--->194679S708441.

Thanks,

Tongari,

I believe there is a Corvette Club of Japan. I know there was one in the Tokyo area when I lived in Japan in the 1990's. (40km south of Hiroshima...) http://www.corvette-club.jp/
These folks might be a great source of local information on your Corvette.

One thing to keep in mind is that when a Corvette is shipped to Japan, the year of the vehicle changes to the current year. If someone brought a 1969 Corvette to Japan in 1975, it would be registered as a 1975. This can be confusing so you probably should establish the actual year of the vehicle as soon as possible. A friend in Otake invited me to come by and look at his 1988 Corvette. When I went to look at it, it turns out it was really a 1984.

Good luck... GUSTO

GUSTO14,

Thank you for your response.
I know that corvette club of japan and international shipping matter.
My car's Vechle Identify Number is 194679S708441,
It has been line out on 1968y thru 1969y.There is 8,441st of year 1969 model corvette. My corvette has 350 engine and 4sp manual transmission now.
I want to know original engine(base or L46) and transmission(A/T or M/T) of line out day.
Do you know a way to extermine of "built data" exept VIN?

also,Engine casting number(right hand of engine) is shaved and put on Japanese registration number by japanese ministry of transport.
Thanks,

Best way is to trace that 69 Vette back to original owner..this means you must contact local/state or Canadian Department of Motor Vehicles....very time consuming....fees may be required...many phone calls,as well...
Good luck

Tongari...

The factory did attach a vehicle build sheet to the top of the gas tank. Many of them are still there. Unfortunately after all these years it is probably in very poor condition... if it is still there. You might be able to remove the rubber boot around the gas filler neck and using a flashlight, look at the top of the gas tank. If you do see the build sheet, it might be worth dropping the gas tank to remove it or at least examine it.

I was able to remove one from my 1973, back in 1991 and it was barely legible even then. If you do find the build sheet, dust it off with a gentle brush and take some high quality digital photos of it before you try to remove it.

Keep in mind that 1969 production was one of the larger production runs for the early Shark cars. Based on what you have described, it appears you have a very common 1969 Corvette. That is the bad news, the good news is that all of them were great cars...

Good luck... GUSTO

Check the time/build date on the trim tag. You should find a D and possibly D22 for Friday, November 22, 1968. My Corvette Blackbook and a pertpetual calendar tend to show your car was on the assembly line Friday, November 22, 1968 when the trim tag was attached. It would not have been a completed car on that date, but close. The actual date might vary since I'm not sure whether the plant would have been closed two days for Thanksgiving, or only one.

You may or may not find the tank sticker and what you might find may not be legible or complete if anything remains. Copies of build sheets have been found in the wiring behind the speedo and tach; in the wiring behind the center cluster, behind either kick panel, tucked in the springs on the underside of a seat, and under the carpet in the rear storage area. If you're lucky, you might find something.

There is no way to determine the original equipment installed on your Corvette through the VIN unless (as stated) it happened to go to Canada.

Good luck with the hunt.
