Alright, so I'm nearly done installing my new carpet set from Mid America (I'm happy with the pieces, the fit overall is very good, only annoying thing was how difficult it was to cut through the jute backing!). However, the front two pieces aren't molded to fit around where the lower seat belt retractor goes (under the seat itself). I don't have the original carpets as they were thrown away, so I don't have much of a template to work around. Are there supposed to be cuts made in this area so the carpet can take the shape of the floor or what?
If anyone can just gimme a pic of the carpet without the seats in, that'd work great too
My 72 had the carpet yanked when I got her so I couldnt tell ya either way. I have heard that the carpet goes under the seat belt covers on the floor pan. If I understand your question right your talking about the two black covers underneath the seats where the seat belt attaches right?
I think I read somewhere that the carpet goes underneath but dont quote me on that.
Good luck, I will be following this thread because I will be in the same boat in a few weeks upon reinstall.
It's been a few months (and beers), but with my '75, the carpeting fit Ok in the footwells. For the seatbelts, and seat bolts, I had to cut the holes.
I used a soldering iron to make the holes as it seals the area, where cutting a hole with a blade will leave a ragged cut that could eventually run.
I know for a fact that those black covers go over the carpet, as that's how it was before. But my new carpet isn't molded to fit that area at all, so to make it fit I guess I'm just gonna have to make a few cuts in the carpet. If I don't the shape will get all screwed up when I put in those black covers...
