Hey all, been lurking on this forum for awhile now and decided to reg.
Got a question on my carb id number.
Car is a 72 LS5/auto. June 72 production
In the 72 service manual the carb number for this car is 7042216
The carb i have is 7042220 (built end of 71) which shows up as a carb for a 402 or 454 chevelle, monte carlo, chevolet carb. I bought this from the 2nd owner whom owned the car from 1974 til i purchased it recently. And he says he never changed the carb? Every other number matches. Could this of been a dealer replacement? Trying to locate 1st owner but getting diff. 2nd owner is 76, 1st owner mid 80's now.
Thanks in advance
KC

The 7042216 is the correct carb for your car. I don't know about the 2220 but is was probably a replacement carb that's not necessary correct for a LS5. Try asking over on the NCRS site. A fellow over there, Joe Lucia is a real numbers cruncher. He should be able to tell you more about the carb you have. www.ncrs.org
thanks, know the 2220 carb was from an LS3 and Non Vette LS5. Will check over at other site. previous owner stated carb trouble right after purchase and dealer took care of it. Doenst know if replaced with another carb or rebuilt he always thought carb on vette was stock
