...that number is also from the "36th" 1974 Corvette built out of 37502 made. Definetly a "first day production car". Could very well be the first 1974 454 Corvette convertible built.

Thanks Paul and others!.... ....Probably no way to determine IF this is the First of the LAST big block Vette. I just bought this car....it needs bumpers / paint / carpet / door panels, but it runs great - has the hard top and a NEW ragtop - factory No AC car - never been painted - and it is ALL there....nothing missing. It will be a good project over the next "few years". I must admit, I think I paid too much -14K - Don't beat me up too bad with the responses !

Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day...........
...no, there is NO REAL WAY unless you knew the VIN #s of all the other '74 454ci convertibles OR the other 35 previous '74 Corvettes. But, I did some "theoretical math" and came up with this.
...out of 37,502 1974 Corvettes built, only 3494 were 454ci cars, which is ONLY 9.316% production of '74 Corvettes. Then, take 9.316% of 5474 convertibles made and it comes up "theoretically" ONLY "509" 454ci convertibles were built. This number of 509 454ci convertibles built also equals only 1.35% of total production out of 37,502. I would bet myself that you probably have a 99.99% chance of having the first 1974 454ci roadster built.

Yes...Yes....and Yes.......My younger brother (also a forum guy - savagezr1) would have gone with me.....requiring a plane ticket for his big a$$ and lots of good food ! He's great to travel with, but not cheap! Also...when traveling with him....there are usually "blue lights" involved !

OK....It arrived Saturday morning. I finally have a Big Block Roadsta..... .....as mild as the 74 LS4 may be ... the low end power is crazy...
No pics yet...It is too filthy to show to anyone. I will put some pics on later this weekend...gimme a break. The last owner basicly ignored this car for 17 years. Looks to have the original GM steel braided spark plug wires...is that original or not...I am not sure. It's all there and is filthy. How these motors run sometimes I do not know. The dwell was set at 21 degrees and the timing was advanced off the scale. Tires had 19 pounds of air and the previous owner was driving this poor thing to work everyday. What i have enjoyed the most so far...looking at the VIN # that ends with 00036. Appears to still have the original carb. It is not a pretty car, as the bumpers have rotted and cracked pretty bad. There can't be any rust underneath, as the entire belly is coated with 17 years of a VALVE COVER leak....makes me crazy. Previous owner said the temp gauge needed replacing as it hadn't worked in years.....I found that it worked great IF the wire to the sending unit was HOOKED UP! Tomorrow I will start pressure washing the underside. I'm shocked at how well this car runs or the fact that it runs at all. This car is showing 6500 miles, but has to be 106,500.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
