I've almost got my 72 on the road and $%^&*() problems keep coming up! The latest is that my tach just stopped working. I disconnected the drive at the distributor and the tach moves when I twirl the cable. When I start the car, I can see the drive move in the distributor, yet when I connect it all up and statrt the car the tach is totally dead. Any ideas?

Just went through this with my 72. Rebuilt the distributore etc. When I twisted the cable the the tach needle moved. When I connected to the dist. ...nothing. Had to pull the cable off the back of the tach. The plastic fitting on the end of the cable that mates up to the back of the tach drive had come off making the cable appear short. In the mean time I ordered a new cable and housing. The replacements are about 2" longer than stock making the routing in the engine bay difficult.
Try to buy just the cable (from Corvete Central, etc) and check the length of your cable. You can cut them but it is no recommended due to fraying.
best of luck
