Default Car show worthy?

I'd like some opinions. Feel free to be candid. I can handle it...

I've joined a local Corvette club with friends that have been long time members. There is an upcoming car show, and they want me to enter my car. They have an '80 and put the car in shows and compete frequently. They do all the work on their car. Motor upgrade, suspension, exhaust...etc...He's a mechanic, so obviously...Me on the other hand, have just bought mine already restored. Nothing to do, so I can't really take credit for doing anything except paying for it and washing it. I can't answer very many questions about the motor or tranny, performance-wise...I'm not sure what to do.

I keep getting this feeling like it's wrong of me to enter the show and have people think I did all the work to get it to this condition, while others have actually put blood, sweat and tears into making their car what it is today. Am I wrong to think this? Should I not care? I don't want to disrespect anyone elses hard work, but at the same time I'd like to show off my beautiful car. I don't really give a rats *** about trophies or club judging or any of that. Now that I think about it, maybe I could park with everyone else but ask to not compete for any judging. Just park and display it. Good idea or not? I'm really wresting with this and would like some feedback please.

Lie! Put some grease under your fingernails and a few cuts on the back of your hands.

my question has nothing to do with that post. Read it again...I'm talking about other c3's like mine. If you can't at least post a well-thought reply, please don't bother to reply.

Go show it off and be very proud of your car. Your blood, sweat & tears supplied the money to buy it. Have fun at the show.

I'll chime in...I've owned a 78 SA for 28 years...always wrenched on it,raced it,cleaned it for car shows...finally bought a restored 69 last September... complete frame off..I have no reservations showing it...but I'm careful to point out someone else restored it...in fact,I brag about the guy who spent four years restoring it...

You own it...it's yours..enjoy it...

Jason,
Give your head a shake....
Nobody at the car show will care if you did the work or bought it that way. In fact, if you ask around at that show, you'll probably find most of the people didn't do their own work and bought their cars in show condition too.
I show my Corvettes all the time and I do my own work but I don't think any less of a guy with a nice Vette that isn't really "hands on". Maybe he does something else that I can't do. I don't usually sit next to my car like some kind of lonesome goof begging for people to ask me about it. I'd rather stand in the crowd and listen to the candid remarks people make. Usually they're pretty good, sometimes they're not but who cares. The guy who disses my Vette (or someone elses) at a car show probably drives a '82 Corolla.
It's a great looking car. Show it.
Best,
Greg

That's exactly what I needed to hear. I guess I was a little too worried. Greg, hearing your response eases my mind. (and the others too!) I think I'll show it. As for people's responses to the car, I will probably spend more time walking around admiring everyone else's cars, not sitting there fishing for compliments. I'm not about that. I just like to look at other Vettes, and figure someone else might like to take a gander at mine. And of course I'll tell everyone who asks that Murvette did ALL the work. I would never intentionally mislead anyone.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Way to go

Isn't there a big fair/car show coming up in Puyallup or Monroe?

I don't go to many car shows, but when I do I will usually ask them not to judge my car. But you should probably go ahead and let them judge yours - maybe win a trophy! I just enjoy hanging out and looking at the other cars. Occasionally someone will ask me if my car has been restored and I reply yes, 10-15 years ago, and not by me.

Evergreen Hot Rod & Classic in Monroe in July

Goodguys has one in July in Puyallup also.

Mostly just car clubs or dealerships around here having average size shows. Nothing major that I know of, but I didn't attend too many in the past, so I could be missing something.

Show your pride and joy off to the rest of the world. If it is a judge show try to get the judging sheets or criteria prior to the show so you know how to prepare your car. Some show's judging sheets can be pretty **** retentive where you might get points taken away for a blade of grass on the carpet, stone stuck in the tread of your tire, wax residue somewhere on the car or it maybe a 10 footer show where daily drivers have a chance against the trailer queens. Enter the show, enjoy the day with the rest of the car guys, burb, fart, even scratch yourself, just enjoy the day for what it's worth, boys being boys. Rod

My .02. I haven't restored either of my cars and I readily tell people such. The guys here are right, don't worry about what others might think just ENJOY. From my personal experience when I got each of mine I had them judged. Not to win a trophy but to get an idea where, if any, I could improve the car. Think of it as a check-list.

Go ahead and show it and have fun. Just be honest with people if they ask questions, if a real car guy asks you a question he'll know if you BS him. I go to shows just to hang out and see great cars, the money you spend goes to charity, and you have a fun day. Cruise nights are more fun in my book. Some shows are way too long, and in the summer heat it's Have fun with your Vette

I souldn't worry about it. I tell people I just wash and maintain my car all the time. I bought it as it is. No shame in that.
