Hello everyone, I must say this forum is great ive learned so much already and love everyones cool cars. I bought a 79 dark brown L48 and love the car. It has 70000 miles and was stored for 13 years in a garage nice condition but had a motor problem. The motor problem was cured with a create 383 stroker 427 horse and 468 ftlb and has 65 miles on so far its a fun car now.
I have lots of plans for the car next is paint and then 200r4 trans. I have 6 cars and do all my own work and love all the info on here. Hope to be of some help to some of you but seems most of you are good motor heads already. BY the way I paid 5500 for the car its hard to find a corvette that needs engine and that is what I wanted due to wanting to put a new motor in anyway. I will keep the old parts for numbers just because not that it will mean much on a 79 but who know.
I live in the mountains of colorado and own 3 -4 wheel drives for the snow so this corvette wont be seeing any bad weather and will be stored in my shop in winter. Im so glad to own a chevy again and to work on one once again.
Once again love all the great info you guys provide and enjoy see all the great work you do on these fine cars.
I'd love to know how much the crate 383 cost you, if you'd be prepared to tell me. I caught my wife unawares on Wednesday and in a moment of madness she sorta agreed that I could have one provided I did all the little jobs around the house that I've been delaying for years.
Was looking at the ZZ383 GM engine on Summit for $4700. Was yours cheaper than that?
Sure I ordered it from AR racing in va for 2995.00 plus 325.00 shipping and they under rate there engines so 427 horse is about 440 and 468 ftlb is about 480 not dynoed yet. started right up and runs great it sure seems like the horses are all there this car is now a blast to drive. My wife road in it the other day and all she could say is your going to get into trouble now the torq is awesome.

Wow. That's a much more appealing price.
Anybody else got experience of this AR Racing? Living in the UK it might be a gamble to buy a crate engine in the US, judging by some of the posts in these forums...
Through my research I found no negative info on them and found others that have used there engine without any trouble. The engine I bought is there weaker motor they sell they get much better then this one and there is nothing that a zz383 spec wise has that this one doesnt and some. Cant wait to drive it today and get more breakin miles on it. I went with a street avenger 770 and it sure runs nice. Hope I dont blow my trany before I can replace it.
Welcome and congratulations on your purchase.
You will get much help on this forum. Lots of good people here.
Keep us posted on your progress with the Corvette and we love pictures on this forum.
