Default Wood Ramps

To all you guys who have built wood ramps. What dimentions and lengths have worked best for you?
What would you do differant if you were to make them again?

I'm about to throw a set together, but wanted to learn from others before I chop up several board feet of timber.

I thank you for your support.

Robert

The ones I built are overall length of about 5.5 feet. The rise section is about 4 feet of thet length to a hieght of 12 or so inches. Problem with what I built is the lift point starts as a 2x4 butt edge. The tire always tries to push the ramp ahead. Start the climb immediately and would not have thet problem. Also plan the rise according to the nose of your car. The later model vettes with more ground effects up front will hit before your tire if the ramp is too steep. Good Luck

I built mine for the C5 but also use it with much more ease on the 78. Tires on mine also want to push them forward and they weigh a ton. I may have schematics somewhere and will look for them.

I built these a couple years ago using 2 X 12 outdoor lumber and dry wall screws. I think the longest piece is 48" and each subsequent piece reduced by 6." The bottom pic shows where I added an addition layer. This raises the bottom of the tire 9" off the ground.

They're heavy and don't budge an inch.

Before I trailered my car home, I bought some 2x10s and cut them similar to what jughead did in case the trailer ramp was too steep. It was a good thing that I did. I think I did them in 1, 2, 3, and 4 foot lengths.

These are cut from a railroad tie, each one is 40" long X 7" high X 8.5" wide. The flat area on top is 20" long. They do not slide, and the angle allows plenty of clearance for low cars such as C5 and 4th gen F bodies. When floor jacks don't fit under a car, I'll drive up on these and if I need more room underneath, I jack the car up further from there.
