I've heard some people say that big blocks are less durable than small blocks, due to the large rotating assembly mass. I have no idea if this is accurate or not.
Got 129,000 on a 78 L-82 4 bolt main.....strong motor...raced in eighties for 5 years..can still shift at 4500-5000 rpms...still going strong...only replaced one valve spring and intake gaskets.....4 speed 3.70:1 rear...drive it hard...expect at least 180,000 miles before it craps....maybe..
