If you want your rear lamps to sit straight and not crooked (tilted up) like the 2 left and the right backup light remove them and be sure to engage the dowels that are cast into the back of the housing into the hole in the bracket

There's no two ways about it - the best looking rear end in automotive history is that of the '68 to '73 Vette. Case closed.
