taking out the pulley
hi, i cannot find the way of pulling out the pulley of the power steering pump...it has no screws whatsoever thus i believe i should have to pull it out with a special tool? i've tried but it doesnt and i'm afraid to damage it, any ideas? thanks/Giu

I used a small wheel puller on my 76. The pulley has a groove machined around the hub for this (at least mine does). It's very easy to do. If you are replacing the pump it usually comes with a "tool" for putting the pulley back on. The tool is basically a bolt, nut and washer. There should be instructions with it. ( You put the nut and washer on the bolt and then with the pulley on the end of the pump shaft, thread the bolt into the shaft and just thighten the nut down against the washer, this forces the pulley onto the shaft. Piece of cake.

well, my pump is quite new and works well, the reason i need to pull the pulley, and you wont believe this, is because a screw went from the pump right near the pulley and did not let the pulley turn freely which means that the belt went hot and finally broke in pieces!! now, i need to pull out the pulley to put the screw of the steering pump back in its place and sicure it....

you are kidding me, right? Does this sound familiar? I just posted this a couple of days ago after wrestling with my p/s for 2 weeks!

i'm in spain now (and my vett follwed nicely me too
) and a kind garage guy has been trying to pull the pulley all afternoon without succeeding and we do not have autozones here
!!

If you have a later c3, the pulley is probably pressed on, and they are tight. Lisle makes a power steering pulley puller. It pulls on the center of the pulley around the shaft. If you use a regular 2 finger puller, it will bend the pulley.
