Default Impression after a few miles

Some of you have asked about my mods over the winter and how they have worked. I have been busy and have been road cycling a lot this spring. Have not had as much time with the Vette as I want. I got a chance for a good ride tonight. Filled up with gas and good water pump on and took off. The 385 motor is quite responsive and despite the large solid cam it has plenty down low to launch it. I took it to 7000 rpm and it just keeps wanting more. I only have about 50 miles so far so I expect it to loosen up a little more with some more miles. Also the carb needs tuning. I have my Innovate Wide band ready to go, just need time.
The slotted rotors are working fine and it stops right now. The 18X10 and 275 40 18s are working well. No trouble at all with the stock trailing arms. No rubbing at all. The 420 lb spring with no rear sway bar rides about the same if not better. I hit a dip tonight at speed and never bottomed out it just bounced once and went straight.
It still needs a clutch adjustment, final go over with the valve adjustment and carb tuning with a few other minor things but overall it has changed the look and performance of the car. Don't be afraid of a cam with large duration. It makes power. I like rpms also!

I would like to see that car also. Any chance that you're going to the Corvette Show & Go (bracket racing) at Raceway Park on August 5th?

Sounds like a blast Gordon. Sometimes a little time away from the vette is good for you.

Yes I am going to be there. I usually hang out and run the autoX most of the day.

Yes some time away from the car is nice. Kind of get burnt out on it. The drive last night reignites it though. I need to get back at it.

Sounds like everything worked out well

What kind of road bike do you ride? I bought a Scott last year, but I've only had it out once this year, the weather has been horrible so far, and I've been busy getting ready to have a garage (30x40) built, I did all the excavating with my tractor Oh, and working and now going to school full time, I hope I get some time for both my bike and vette at some point over the summer

I bought a Trek 2300 Pro from a forum member here. It is a few years old but like his car the bike is immaculate. He hurt his back and stopped riding. I have been trying to ride about 60 miles/week which takes some time, but well worth it. My wife rides a Fuji right now. We ran a 30 mile charity ride this weekend and I got lost due to bad markings and just screwing up. Ended up being a 35 mile ride!

Hey Gordon,
It sounds like a blast, I can't say that I don't envy you, hopefully I will be pulling up in front of your house one day soon in my own (running) Vette. I'd love to see all the work that you have done.

That's a great Trek, is yours the blue & white frame? I looked at the Fujis and would have probably gotten a Roubaix if the shop had one in stock. 35 miles is a really nice ride. If the weather ever breaks, it'll be a struggle whether to take my bike or the vette out, maybe if I can get a baby sitter, I'll take my wife out to dinner (in the vette ).

I hope to due the same with my back wheels someday, be sure to write down and save what you had to do to fit those so I can ask down the road

Gordon - What front springs and sway bar do you have with that 420 rear? Is the rear glass or steel?

My Trek is a green carbon fiber frame with some black specs thrown in. Ifirst thought is was some kind of dirt but realized it was in the paint.

I am running 550 front springs with a 1 1/8 bar. When I was in Florida this year I stopped by Vette Brakes and told them what I was doing. He laughed and said all you guys wanting to stuff big rubber under these cars. He said this is the best setup for what I was doing. I actually like the ride better than before.

Yes it is narrowed 1 inch on both sides. Glass spring. They have 3 molds for their springs. I wanted it as flat as possible. The mold the yuse for this is the mold for the front transverse spring. The spring is quite flat but did not lower the car at all from the previous spring.

Yeah , that bike is immaculate!!! and my backs getting better. Now if I can FINALLY get my car started.. "THE HEADERS FINALLY ARRIVED TODAY" only waited a month to get them back from jet hot..$%^&* their customer service, after calling numerous times I finally had it and asked for the head cheese........got them in four days, see what a "squeaky wheel" will do..........
