Default Previous "maintenance" rant

Some things I've noticed while dismembering the front suspension and steering:
-anything that could be greased has about three times as much grease as it needs. Talk about a sticky mess.
-almost anything with a castle nut/cotter pin retaining system was reassembled without the pins.
-the steering system leaked out all over the place. PS fluid and road dirt. Eww.
-someone tried to patch the broken inner fender with a piece of metal and some screws. Brilliant.

Most of this was done by so-called "professional" mechanics. Probably the same type of idiots as the last mechanic that ever touched the car - he changed every bearing in the steering column trying to eliminate the slop, and never noticed that the flex disc in the rag joint was almost completely gone.

Sometimes Bubba gets paid...

Just to top it all off, it appears that my sway bar is bent.

Never ceases to amaze me what people have done to thier cars in the past. Most of them shoulda stuck to goat farming.

I could deal with that vs. the "no-grease"'ers Bubbas ....

My list of Bubbas and lack of maintenance is long...and not complete

I think that the professional Bubbas are worse than the shade tree ones. It's very easy to see that you have to replace a rag joint that has been replaced with RTV and duct tape, but mach harder to notice a subtle repair.

I know that one of the previous owners of my car was a mechanic. I spoke with him a couple of times. Although he never confessed, it was clear that he was trying to patch the car together to sell. He did little things like connecting the tranny oil cooling lines together bacause he didn't have correct fittings for the rad. He also removed the thermostat and wired the electric fan to run continually because the car was overheating at speed. He did this rather than replacing the missing air dam and spoilers. Clever, but evil.
