You know, I ALMOST want to see that movie for the drifting scenes, as I think drifting takes some incredible talent and car control to do some of the things that the pros have done.
But to see 15 min. TOPS of drifting in a movie that's going to be close to 2 hours long with tons of bad acting? I'll save my money and go to the D1 drifting events up at Irwindale instead.
The sad thing about that movie will be the 17-year-olds who try to do it in mom's Corolla immediately after watching it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I imagine drifting would be tough to do in a FWD car. At any rate, accident rates are gonna go through the roof after that movie comes out. My favourite part of the commercial is the narrator describing drifting as "the newest thing" - as if sprint/outlaw car racers haven't been doing it for decades (albeit on dirt tracks).

I know!!! And it's NOT the newest thing...They've been doing it in Japan on the mountain roads for like, 10-15 years now; it grew from that. There's been a japanese anime called InitialD, which has been running for almost 5 years now.and is based upon the sport...
And yeah, Vic Edelbrock was sliding sideways back in the 40's in his little nitromethane midget out at the dirt tracks in Los Angeles County, so you're absolutely right, it's NOTHING new.
Oh, and it IS possible to get a FWD to drift. It just takes work...I've broken the rear wheels loose on my FWD Saturn on the autocross course (I was driving through the slalom and was trying to drive it too fast, and the rear end started sliding), so it's possible...Just not easy to do on purpose. And I'll tell ya, there was pucker factor in that because I'd never done it before.

I agree!!! Last Friday I got cut off by a ricer in a Tiburon on the highway that made a 3 lane cross in front of me to fit into a space that was no bigger then his car +2 feet. He almost caused a serious accident.
He just happened to get off the same exit I did and pulled in to the movies. I pulled in behind him and out of the drivers seat appeared a kid that looked no older then 13. I rolled down my window and informed him of his dangerous move on the highway. He was not concerned at all and blew me off.
I think the F&F movies just increase the ricer problem drivers on the roadways.

We can thank them for our insurance hikes, too. Luckily my insurance just went down for the next term due to me turning 21 this month. Paying like half the price for insurance with my ole vette than I was with my '95 z28 with 10x the coverage and 1/2 the deductibles.
Well... those inconsiderate teenage guy drivers and the young chick drivers with emotional issues are probably equally as bad... I always say, if you're in such a hurry you shoulda left yesterday.

Prop 103 will help us here....insurance companies are going beserk over it...policy cost basis will be indivdual drivers record...not by zip code..
Years ago I "drifted" a 65 buick wildcat off the road smack dab into a telephone pole after consuming too many budweisers. The witnesses there thought that scene was pretty cool, maybe we should have made a movie.
Might be there for the OT people, most don't own a vette.
There was a thread in OT about the movie and most of the people said they were going to go see it. I'm going to see it this Friday with my brother; the douchebag ricers with their backwards hats should be more entertaining than the movie.
i have a perfect driving record.
when i moved from bergen county new jersey 7 years ago, to essex county, i was told by my insurance company my rates would go up because of the move.

dumbasses.
I moved about 2 miles from ZIP 48198 to 48197, from an apartment where my truck had been broken into to a house with a garage and my rates went up. TOTAL !
i went to a go-kart track in the poconos and they had the karts like dirt track midgets and you could drift around the corners... i found it hard to get it right, but really a blast nonetheless.
