on my '71, screw both ends in place, apply adhesive, wait 10 minutes until sticky,
set everything in place, after a while shut the doors, enjoy a beer and a smoke

You can use the weatherstrip adhesive like contact cement.
Apply adhesive, push together, pull apart, let dry a few minutes, and push back together - stuck. If adhesive is still too wet, pull apart and
let dry a few more minutes.
