Corvette experience? (thought it was going to be another sex thread didn't ya )
I was 13 at the time and my uncle came over to the house to go with our family to a church picnic...he came over in a brand new white 75 (I think it was a 74)..I had never seen a C3 vette before, or at least I don't remember seing one. I remember that I was awestruck! One hell of a sharp looking ride! My dad, one of Chicago's finest had a station wagon. Afterall, we needed the room to get a family of 6 around.
Anyhow, since my uncle was also my Godfather, I got to drive in the vette to the picknick...it was absolutely fantastic..my first experience in any type of sports car!
I think my uncle was kind of a light weight when it came to drinking...after a few beers at the picnic, he passed out....so who was going to drive the vette home? Well my dad got the job...and I was the navigator! After squeezing himself in the car (he was 6'3" and about 290lbs) and finally figureing out how to get it started (took at least 5 minutes and asking a couple of people) we got going...he drove it like a granny! I kept urging him to go fast like uncle Greg...but he wouldn't. I promised myself that I was going to get me one of those some day..now I have it (bought my first C3 in 2001)!
Anyways, that is one of my fondest memories..just happens to be a corvette story!

I don't remember exactly when I started liked Corvettes, but I know I have for a long time. As far as the first time I got to ride in/drive a vette: that happened about 6 months ago in my '78. I've not taken it on the open road yet, just a small rural road; I can't wait to take it down the highway.
I don't remember the first ride in Dad's 66 but the first and only time I ever heard my dad swear was in that car. 66 ragtop, 327 that idled like a harley, open sidepipes (no mufflers) and dad pulled out on to a 35 mph speed limit road. He shifted into second then third never really running it up, looked down and we were doing 105. Dad said "Oh $hit" and back to second we went.
That car wouldn't hardly run at 55 in third or fourth gear....
My first experiance was after I started at a GM dealer as an apprentice. I was given a PDI on a vette (who would give a teenager a vette to drive???) to do. That afternoon I was called into the service managers office to explain why there was 200 miles on a new Corvette. Oppps....well ever since I have been hooked!!!
My first ride was in the new '68 a neighbor who was a GM plant boss brought home in the fall of '67 for the night. The whole neighborhood was over gauking at it. My skinny 11 yr old body and another boy were in the back with my father and the neighbor in the front.

Yeah...I was doing a tune up on a friends He neglected to tell me that he disconected the broken netural safety switch ..pulled on the remote starter switch I had under the hood with me stupid thing ran over my foot& stalled...oh yeah...I was a 73
My parents bought a brand new '77 when I was ten. I have fond memories of riding with my dad to my Grandparents' lake house in Eastern Washington in '77, and riding through downtown in '79 when the Sonics won the NBA championship. Dad bought the car for mom, but she didn't like driving it, and it was too slow for my dad, so it mostly sat in the garage. I drove it some in high school and college. They still have it, and it has 19K miles on it.
my buddies dad brought one home in '79. I was 10. They lived next door. It was beige, had the pace car spoilers on it. I drooled over that thing and would get taken for rides once in a while. It was the first vette that I truely remember. My buddy had a little sister - in '80, I guess she was 3 maybe 4 and my buddies dad forgot something and left the car running and the baby in the car. She dropped it in drive (auto) and through the garage door, through the garage and into the house it went. Lucky the wall into the house stopped it cause they had a pool in the back yard if it had gone much further.
Bad thing was, my dad was into Alfa Romeos and I do not know if he really liked that fact that I was moved so much by American Muscle. Too late now

In my bachelor days in Austin (mid 70's), I dated a rich girl with a big block 4 speed 74 coupe. I only had motorcycles then or an occasional junkyard refugee beater, so we dated in her car, and I got to drive. I don't know what the rear end was geared at, but it was easy to brake loose when you put your foot in it. Sweeeeet!
By 77, I was living in Ft Worth and regularly driving my buddy's 71 SB Roadster while he was visiting the local steel bar hotel. I ended up with it in 78 after he blew the engine, and I still have it.
My dad brought this company car home for a few days during the winter. I was a Z28 guy and this was my first Vette driving experience and it was the ultimate powertrain in '72. Spent a couple nights cruising Woodward in it (you Detroit area locals know Woodward). Unforgettable. I was hooked and bought a used '68 vert 6years later for a toy. That was the start of it all.
Be intersesting to know if this car is still around and in the forum.
As a pre-teen in the late 60's, I saw a early model C3 and asked my dad what kind of car that was. Thats a Corvette he said. He only smiled a bit when I asked him if he thought we could get one.
I promised myself that someday I would own a cool car like that.
In 1979 I bought my 1st Vette off the show room floor. I owned it long enough to realize I could not afford it and had to sell it.
Funny thing though.
It wasn't until I bought my 2nd Vette last fall that I felt that I had actually full-filled that promise I had made to myself over 30 years ago.

My dad bought a used 63 convertible when I was 13. I was so excited when he brought it home - I told him to make sure he didn't sell it until I was old enough to drive. About a year later we were out for a drive and I was just happy to be riding shotgun. He pulled over to the side of a country road and asked me if I wanted to drive. My heart almost stopped. I killed it about 20 times until I figured out how to work the clutch, but that first drive was one I will never forget. I own a 71 convertible now but am still waiting for my old man to sell me that 63, which he has now owned for over 35 years.
Actually my first Corvette memory was a Christmas present. I go a car carrier truck and it had '53 '63 '69 Corvettes on it. The '63 was my favorite as a kid and it is still my favorite right now but I can't afford one (Not even a beater) so I "settled" for my 1971 Vert. From then on my parents would ask me what I wanted for birthdays/Christmas and I'd always say a brand new Corvette. They would get me one but it was always 1/24th scale. I said that one day I would own the real thing and now I do. I've had mine since 1999.
My first Corvette experience occur when I had 7 or 8 years old and I saw a 1972 Red C3 with polished chromed bumpers, big wheels and Goodyears tires with white letters. In seconds, I fell in love with Vettes. Now I have a 1971 C3 Coupe and my wife love it.
My dad brought home a 69 convertible when I was in the third grade. He used to take me and my two younger brothers brothers around the block and it was love at first sight. I can close my eyes and still see my dad polishing that thing in the driveway with a huge smile on his face.
My first memorable corvette experience occured when I was a kid in the late 60s. The local corvette club used to gather on Sunday mornings up the street from my house, and we used to have to drive by the parked cars as we were heading off to church. There were usually 6 or 7 cars lined up. I can remember staring out the window of the old Rambler station wagon as we rubber necked our way around the corner (my dad was drooling too) checking out that beautiful plastic.
