while i may agree emotionally, the reality is the '85 is a far better DD than an '81. you will never get frosty A/C in texas without at least rebuilding the system, and some re-engineering might be required to help it. no reason it can't be reliable either but don't expect the same kind of reliability and fuel economy from the car. '81s are notorious for bad cams and if this is an original 80k motor, the cam is on borrowed time.
depends on what you expect of the car and what you want it to do. if you expect to jump in the car every day, start it and drive off in a chilly cockpit--it ain't gonna happen.
on the other hand, if you want one of the best looking cars on the road, coming or going, and you intend to put some TLC into it, they're great cars.

I don't want to sway your decision but in my humble opinion 81s ROCK

The '81 is a great looking, quickly appreciating car. Maybe a $10k car?

The '85 is worthless. Maybe a $3k car.

I agree that the '85 is worthless and you are probably looking at a step up in value, but without more information (stock motor? Body condition?) you could be talking about not much of a step up.

And if you are thinking A/C in TX with an '81, fuggetaboudit.

I would trade, because I think 207 K is ALOT.

Default thanks for your opinions

well deal was not as good as i thought. wouldnt start when checking it out finaly got it to kick over and had a knock to it in the lower end, does not sound good, no a/c need compressor, needs paint tires, so i thought i would just keep my 85 and enjoy it for a while.207k is alot of miles, does not burn or leak oil 24mpg in town runs like a new one thanks for your opinions .. rrthomas

I think a C3 is a great looking car! But for a daily driver that blows cold air....I would keep the 85. Besides, the L98 is alot faster off the red lights than a stock 81. Larry

Great thing about L98s, they can go 250k miles easily without needing a rebuild.

C4s won't hold their value like C3s but they are excellent cars IMHO. I wouldn't mind a C4 vert.

Come on you guys! C4's will come into their own as far as value in due time. We C3 owners had to wait our turn while the price of the C1 and C2 market sky rocketed out of range of the normal non-millionaire Corvette Enthusiast. Telling a C4 owner his vette isn't worth anything isn't true. The late C4's are still pulling in between $12-20K.
