Default How do I remove the speedo cable.

There looks to be a grommet through the firewall. I don't want to break the grommet. Is there a special way to loosen that grommet.

If it's original, it's probably baked and hardened to the consistency of steel. In that case, you'll probably have to remove it in pieces with a pliers.

Those grommets are cheap. It might be better just to replace it...

To get to what? Aren't you looking at the grommet from the engine compartment?

The speedo grommet on my 78' had a steel washer with spring type fingers molded into the rubber. Use a screw driver and pry it out of the hole in the firewall.

Yeah I see where it connects on the pedal at the top just don't see how to pop off without removing the pedal assembly.
