My 68 had those Thrush side exhausts on it when I purchased it in 1972.
They sounded great because they point down to the pavement so the sound reverberated. The annoying thing, other than the risk of burning your ankles on entry and exit (they got real hot) was that after washing the car and polishing it as soon as you started it up the sidepipes pointing downward would blow a cloud of dust all over the freshly cleaned car. I always had to remember to lightly wet down the driveway so there would be no dust at startup. The police didn't like the sound, and reminded me several times in writing (as in tickets), so I finally removed them and gave them away. Still have the 68 but no longer have the pipes and haven't seen a set in many years until this post.
