I have a new (never installed) Al Knoch dash that I bought from a fellow member but I need to change its color to match mine.
I have 3 spray cans of Dye from corvette america.
What other prep work /tips do you guys recommend (if any) for a new dash?
Do you think that 3 cans is enough?
i never did a dash but .............. i know from experience that you must clean clean clean. use alcohol or de- natured alcohol. you must get all the oils ,dirt, armor all off first and i would prime it first or call corvette america and they will tell you the best process

'79 is absolutely correct - it MUST be VERY clean and you REALLY should use the correct primer.
I did mine and it took 2 attempts - the second was with a spray gun. If you are spraying one of the metallic colors (i.e Bright Blue) and you aren't careful (spray it too dry - too far away), you can end up with the metallics on top of the paint - very ugly effect! It came out super once I figured it out.
Just finished mine. Also an Al Knoch dash. Only thing I did not like about the Al Knoch dash was the sloppy trim job they did. It took me three hours of trimming with a new razor to get a good fit. Prior to finishing, I used SEM Vinyl Prep, available at any automotive paint store. I used a spray gun with color matched SEM dye for a perfect match with my interior. I have an interior from Al Knoch which don’t match the “standard” 81 dark red sprays very well. I have found that the spray cans from corvette America and others don’t cover very well and are very expensive when compared to using a cheap HPLV gun and a quart of quality automotive dye. Just my 2 cents,
Mine is doeskin in color so no metallic in there.
I don't have a paint gun so I was hoping to get good results with the spray cans if that is possible...

rattle can for primer and paint. came out real nice. I forgot to tell you I also used Bulldog adhesion promoter before the primer. I bought it at the local O' Riley auto parts store.
