Default Buckskin Vinyl Dye question

I have a 76 that I am trying to make look decent. I is supposed to be buckskin color but my interior seems to be multi-color. I have read on posts to use SEM brand dye, and that is what I bought. If you look at the picture the door is darker than the dash pad. I used SEM Light buckskin on the kick panel which doesn't look anything like either the door or dash. I also don't really like the color of the kick panel. Has anyone used the Corvette America brand dye? Is it just relabeled SEM? or custom formulated by someone else? I am driving myself nuts trying to decide what to do about the color in the car. The buckskin in the Corvette America catalog looks ok but so does the SEM chart on the internet but thats not the color that actually came out of the can. I am thinking about just going to black dye and do the whole interior. Any thoughts from you all would be appreciated.

Check with the local paint shop, they may be able to match the color you want and mix up a batch to do the whole thing

that looks like a light saddle interior not buckskin, maybe that is why it is not matching.

Light Buckskin & 79-80 Doeskin are very similar in SEM paintyour kick pannel looks like Doeskin...yes I have a Doeskin interior in my 79 & used the buckskin color as well....but the best thing to do is as suggested go to the paint shop & have it custom mixed in SEM that is what I had to do...works fine.

Corvette America dye is relabled SEMS dye, I have a couple of cans of both in my garage.

I have used SEMS tan/brown formulated colors on a previous vehicle and have found that if the can isn't shook up really well the color will vary. I also had problems getting a solid color that matched the cap color very well. I was using the monterrey sems color.

If the cap matches your dash more than the actual color that came out then that may be your problem.

God your car has to be a sister to mine, except mine has deluxe int and air conditioning! Same color and when I got it, the same floor covering!

I agree, check differences between buckskin and saddle interior. Mine was multicolored too it's amazing!

My car had (still has) dk brown steering wheel. But the only thing in the car that matched it inside, was the dash cover! The seats were buckskin, the door panels faded, and the interior trim was saddle or faded buckskin, don't know which.

I used carpet from Corvette Central, and new interior panels too. I had the OEM seats done with new BMW Champagne leather. I covered the original dark brn. dash with a new cover that matches the interior parts I bought from corvette central. It came out great!

here's the st. wheel while putting Reflectix insulation under new carpet:

http://www.leatherique.com/

Go to their website, there's plenty of info there. I've used Leatherique products exclusively for years - they are the best there is for leather auto interior care, maintenance and restoration - bar none! I just bought some of their rejuvenator oil and pristine clean to treat the black leather seats in my Eldorado (twice a year). Leatherique is expensive but you will find nothing better.

Ciao

I have had very good success with the Dupli-Color leather & vinyl dye, desert tan is a perfect match for "camel/dark buckskin" in my 79. at about $7.00 a can you can't go wrong. I have restored steering wheels and even changed colors successfully with these products. Very fast dry and recoat times too! Available at your local parts store.

Your car does look like a sister to mine. My carpet was dark brown just like the dash pad and steerinig wheel. According to my color plate my interior was factory buckskin color.
I really like the look of your seats with the Champagne leather, how did you do that?
Bythe way SanDiegoPaul, my name is also Paul....thanks for the shots of your car, I think I will keep trying to get the interior a saddle color.
Thanks.

Mine is the same way. My question is, when ordering interior trim pieces do we need to specify buckskin but for the carpet, dark brown?

I don't have my trim plate code hand, but I believe it is 37L.

We mix vinyl dye at work. I can take your code and get the exact color. This stuff isn't cheap though.

I’m hoping to repaint steering column. What color is this, what do I get, and where? Interior is buckskin but this is lighter. C3 is a 76’.

WOW! This thread is 14 years old, but the interest seems to still be there on the subject. You have a lot of different colors going on there. On mine, I decided on which color I liked the best and matched the best/closest after I restored my interior and had my SEM paint custom mixed at the auto paint supplier to match and repainted every plastic piece with a spray gun. It came out great and has lasted a very long time. My carpet is a slightly darker shade (purchased from Corvette America) to contrast with the rest of the interior which is tan. Good luck with your project.

your door panel, which needs work or replaced, is the same color as the column. as is the kick panel. your left dash looks like light or medium saddle. which matches pretty good with the dupli-color desert sand that icanfix mentioned. which is available at every chain parts store. as buc said, this is a very old thread. if you search and find an old thread, click on the user name you wanna ask something to. many will have not been on here for a long time. then send them a private message. they will get an email saying they have a private message, provided they still use the same email address. when you revive an old thread, we find ourselves reading old posts then we see the date.
