Since I'm installing the carpet this weekend and don't have time to find the 3M’s 8074 or 8090 Spray Adhesive as is suggested in the write up, has anyone tried regular contact cement spray? Or has anyone not used any spray at all. I'm having problems making the rear side compartment sides sit in place properly. I got the carpet from Wilcox. They suggest using the spray on the heat barrier also.
My .02, but I certainly would not use contact cement. Once set up, that stuff will not allow for the repositioning of parts. I'd use the 3M and have a little leeway in positioning, repositioning, and fitting.
revel_inmy_loss, I just used crappy tire spray glue
Is that a contact cement type glue?
I believe it was... it was just what I had laying around.... I only used it to glue the kick panel pieces and console pieces on.... Again, I am building a functional car not a show car
worked good enough for me, but your standards may be a little higher
I actually didnt need any glue for my carpet I found the seats held it in place nicely. After a week it sits really nicely I have some 3m on hand though incase it gets floppy. Being in the carpet business I would have to say if you use contact cement make sure you dont plan to change he carpet again anytime in the near future . I used contact on the seat backs and lets just say its not going anywhere for a while
A friend had a Porsche 944...that was the worst stereo install of my life. The Germans glued EVERYTHNG into that car, including the interior trim panels...
