Sorry this has happened to you, especially at the holiday weekend. As you know, I took off early for a five day vacation. I wish there was something I could do but I just don't have anyone there to call. What you could do is remove the fans from the radiator and package the radiator only for pick up. I will be all over this when I get back on wednesday. If you want to email me, I will be checking them

Wow, that is unusual to get a defective part the DeWitts. Sorry to hear about the time and effort wasted on the install (it will go much faster the 2nd time). I installed a DeWitt in my 63 several years ago, and have been very happy. I am sure they will make things right. Good Luck.

Dave

That was a fast reply by Tom - he made a post while I was preparing my post.

Well it looks like you didn't see this in time, UPS picked up today already. I don't know if you have quit on this or still want to have some fun this weekend but you might want to double check the source of the leak. Sometimes these things can run out of the upper hose and down the end tank, looking like a radiator leak. Or the nuts that hold the trans cooler on were not tight enough and they are leaking. that can be solved by just tightening them. If in the end it is really a rad leak that we missed, drive it anyway. What the hell, it can't be that big of a leak that you can't have some fun, is it?

No Tom won't! What I meant was he might be able to drive it around if the leak is very small. If you don't tighten the pressure cap you will not raise pressure and that might stop it completely. Again, I'm assuming it is a very small leak or my guys wouldn't have missed it. With an aluminum radiator and dual fans I don't think the boiling point is an issue. We do also get a few radiators back that don't actually leak and/or some customers poked a hole in while installing it. (Not saying that's the case here). If you have a huge spray or something like that, then obviously that's not something you want to use. In any case, good judgement needs to be made and every owners is responsible for monitoring guages and acting before burning up and engine.

This is EXACTLY why it pays to pay a little more. This is great customer service. I wish all vendors would act this way.

Thanks Tom for the offers- yeah I just got back in. The right wheels' on a ramp so i could get under it and it's leaking on the upper left above the upper hose so it's a leak. I'll give it a good goin over again just to triple check in the am.
I did not post this for any other reason than to vent frustration by the way, this looks like an awesome setup and with your attitude an rep around here i'm not worried at all that this would be taken care of. what a great offer of air freight-thanx i wish i caught that in time but don't sweat it, sh*&t happens, we just have to fix it after the weekend.
This was probably one of the e3asiest things to install i"ve ever bought by the way, I installed the radiator with fans and dual fan controller with extra relay in about 1.5 hours - very impressed with this rig - thus my frustration with a leak. Oh well, tomorrows another day, thanks for the support guys , i'llpost pics when i'm done -i think it's pretty obvious tom cares and will get it taken care of.
my red 81 - tom will get me up an runnin soon, i'll see you out there, in the meantime heres a wave from the house

There isn't much above the upper hose. I wonder if we don't have a problem with the upper hose fit. The 1980-82 uses a 1.25" upper hose and the 77-79 uses a 1.5" hose. So we made the A77 model with a reducer connection with both 1.5" & 1.25". If you have the correct hose (1.25") it should only go on half way and not over the second stage of the fitting. Check it out and thanks for being so cool about this.

Yes ithe upper hose is halfway and the leaks high on the tank or something. Passenger wheel was up on a ramp yesterday, to check for something running down from somewhere (so upper hose leak would have had to run uphill). I rolled her down to level it off and she leaks in the same place. All hoses and fittings check out ok. it is trickling out from an inner row or something. Oh well. I removed the fans and fittings and it's boxed up, I thought I'd ship it today and with the holiday you'll get it wed or thur.
Ever been to a crippled children's hospital? Spend 1 hour in one and for the rest of your life you'll find these things don't bother you as much. I have 2 arms, 2 legs, and normal (debateable) senses to me, a radiator can easily be fixed or replaced.
Hey you can't take a day off can you? Workaholic

Double check the box for damage, might have been damaged during shipping, if so make the shipping company pay for the damage, hate to see a good guy like Tom pay for some else's screw up.

I know exactly what you mean. My sons' autistic and all I have to do when I'm feeling sorry for myself is visit one of the special ed classes at his school. Some have sever physical disabilities, can't walk, can't communicate at all, and have to be manually fed. My kid is pretty strange when compared to normal, but I'm still very lucky.

As far as the workaholic goes, I am trying to cut back a bit. This is the longest summer vaction I've had (5 days) in about ten years. There isn't a heck of a lot to do at the cottage and so checking the forum once in a while isn't exactly work. Especially when someone needs help.

I'll ship the replacement radiator out on wednesday (2nd day air) which will get it to you on friday for a weekend install. How that sound?

Sounds great, thanks, Tom. After Fevre's post I looked over the box, there is a "ding" that goes all the way through. I strongly suspect there was a shipping mishap. I marked the damaged area for your inspection. I got to the shipping place today 5 min after they closed -( see original thread title. ) I'll call around and ship from whoever I can find open, and as soon as possible.
It seems we have some common ground as my son, now 18, was one of the special ed kids like you described. I've raised him and a daughter by myself for about 13 yrs now and the vette is my respite outlet. I really feel we are blessed with the opportunity to be a part of their lives.

I second that one!
It's on it's way, the shipping guy said it does really look like it was shipping damage. Ifyou need me Tom for any reason in order to get relief from the original shipper, if that is the case, just let me know what you need from me.
