Default Embarrassing Question

I hate to even ask this, but when I was trying to check my oil this morning, the guide for the dipstick came out with the dipstick and I can't see where it goes back. I've gone under the car, used a flashlight, but I don't see where it goes back. :o I hate to even ask this, but can anyone else help? Looks like changing the oil will be a breeze though...I saw enough to see that.

there is a hole in the edge of the block at the bottom. look for a slight bulge in the oil pan along the top edge, the hole is right above it

The dipstick tube fits into a hole that is located in the block just above the top of the oil pan. If it was so loose that it simply pulled out with the dipstick you might want to consider tighening it but making the bottm end just slightly out of round.

If it fell out, must be out of round. I took a tapered punch, inserted it into the bottom of the tube and gave it a few taps. That rounded & flared the end a tiny bit. Put an O ring on it...tapped the tube back into the block and she's nice & snug with no leaks....

It's not embarrassing! It's really hard to spot that hole when looking at the engine unless you know exactly where to look...
Here's a shot of one on a small block. Yours might be on the other side.
