well i have my engine in and i was under the car hooking up some wires when i kicked the front driverside jackstand and it moved a little then i realised that there was a little gap between the jack stand and the frame. but luckily i also had my jack under the car supporting it as well. anyways i crawled from under the car and lowered the jack and the stand was still loose. next i reached under the car carefully and removed the jack stand and sure enough the car didnt move an inch. well i know my frame is solid oh yah and the car has been on stands for about 8 months now and i open the doors all the time and even removed the t-tops a few times while i was working on the interior. the frame on this vette is solid here are some pictures of the jackstand positioning
here is a picture of the jackstand before i removed it.
Happens to me all the time, ie put the vette up on 4 stands but only 3 are holding up the frame. Must have a warped frame!
( actually, when this happens one of the stands is set one notch lower than the others. I don't have 4 identical stands, I have 3 pairs of different sized stands. )
Same here, have had my vette on 3 jackstands since early january.
The rear driver always has a hair of clearance b/w it.
Don't go blowing up your garage with that propane tank!...unless the vette is out of it first!
Absolutely normal ... and good.
I usually stick some squares of commercial carpet between the stand/frame.
It takes up any slack, so you don't accidentally knock a stand out of position.
You don't want 3 stands under there and lean on the unsupported side of the car.
I have contended all along that if your car is "flexing" when you jack it up there must be a problem with your frame.
Roger that
I also don't think there is a such thing as "normal" flex. I can jack up any corner(s) of my car and my doors and t-tops still operate just the same. I can also jack up front and rear at the same time by putting the jack right in the center of the rail, and still no flexing. If your car flexes enough to bind up the doors when you jack it, then you have serious problems.
Good to hear that you have a solid frame.
But I am a little confused here? It appears that you are from California but you have a Virginia tag????
im in the Coast Guard (military) and i am a virginia resident so i kept my vette and my wifes car regestered there but i bought a jeep and a motorcycle sense i have been out here and just went ahead and regestered them here oh yah and i have a california driverslicense
my frame is pretty well rusted, but its been up on ramps for the last month now. not a single problem. last year it was up on ramps for probably almost 4 months, and again, didnt have a single problem.
