Well.... I have a leak at the rear window, the lower section (all the way back) is loose, the glue separated from the glass
I'll have to remove the glass, clean everything and re-install with new glue. The glass guy is coming some time next week to install my windshield and I hope he can install the rear window for a small additional charge
Now my question: I plan on cutting the old glue with piano wire and hope I can get the glass out without any damage.... is this the best way to do this ? Any recommendations ?
Mine was actually so loose that I pushed it out. But the piano wire will work fine. They use a bead of butyl which is like tar. it becomes soft when warm. If you are uncomfortable taking this out the glass guy can do it.
I'm pretty sure Ecklers and the like sell the clips, but I'll be damned if I can find them right now.
I found the clips in their catalog, they're in their 'restauration' section and only $1.75 a piece
Tonight I'm going to try to get one of the damaged clips off, so far I haven't figured out how they're attached.... have to scrape more dirt off, maybe there's a phillips head under the dirt...
Let us know what you find. Bubba converted my 81 to a CE style hatch many moons ago and I've been wanting to switch back to the fixed window for a while. The problem is, any holes that may have been there originally have all been filled in and I've got no clue how to mount the clips back to hold the trim.

The clips press into holes in the fiberglass, they have a round little anchor (I don't know what thta it called) and you put a little pin inside it and the anhor spreads and locks in place. They are a PITA to replace with the window in place.
I removed the glass from mine, I used a small sharp knife and bent the blade to cut through the glue behind the glass, just slip in under there and up to cut. I then did the same from the inside, carefully working around the car and slicing on and on to cut deeper and deeper. Took me about an hour or so. I tried to use wire but it will cut into the fiberglass very quickly. The glass sits in a sort of sloped channel so if you use the wire you will damage the inside. Hopefully you can see it in this pic:

Thanks - that makes sense
I'll try to cut the adhesive tonight.... I hope I don't end up with a huge hole in the floor like you did
