I bought a 75 vette about 4 months ago. It has been running good, but I finally got time to work on it, and do a tune up. When I was checking out the distributor springs I saw that the bushings on the posts that hold the weights were missing. I took off the weights and found the following. The posts were almost worn through.
I am now looking for the plate that I need to replace. This is not the main distributor shaft, but the plate that holds the weights on them. In the meantime I did find the bushings that fit a Mr. Gasket weight set. This is working until I can repair everything.
Helpful tip....check your weights for the bushings. If they are not there, add them.
It still runs ok. I did a quick timing check and it is now at 12 initial/idle and 28 degrees all in at 1950 rpm. I used the black springs for my first try.
Next is to bump up the timing to 36 max, change out the vacuum can to a VC1810, and then check the other spring settings.
