Default Time - Where does it go.....???

Why is it that some people can work on their cars and accomplish an unbelieveable amount of work and I go work on my car and it doesn't even seem like I make progress.....

Am I the only one?

You are not the only one.

I have been PM'ing 72-LT1. He has been working on primer like me and seems to get a massive amount accomplished where as I use every spare minute out in the garage and do what seems very little. He is two steps ahead of me now. When I first contacted him, he was at about the same place as me.

Just keep you're eye on the finish line. We will get there eventually.

I start a small project and then 'while I'm at it' I move on to the next.... then suddenly the entire car is apart

Yep. Try to go out in the garage during the week after work, but it's almost a waste of time, don't get much done. Need a whole day to really get things done, it's tough with everything else going on in people’s lives nowadays. Perseverance does pay off, hope to turn key very soon.

I find it easier to get something done on the 'Vette by setting a small but obtainable goals and jumping in. If you do a little...maybe 1 or 2 hours a night, it will all come together soon.

I don't get anything substantial accomplished unless I devote a good 5-8 hour chunk of time to my project. I find if you set aside 2 hours to do something, you'll spend 1 1/2 hours of it getting stuff ready, remembering where you left off, cleaning up, etc...

With a wife and two small children, it's hard for me to find good time to get things done. But I have a feeling that if I took out the Lazy-Boy recliner and the TV out of the shop I would get a lot more done.

No it's not just you. It seems that way to me too.
But I know what the reason is for me is.

It's the damn internet and all these forums.
I new I shouldn't have put a computer in the Garage!

That's why I decided to have someone else do the work and I pay for it. Take the car in, they do the work, pick up the car, same day. I get to drive it more and don't have headaches. Yes, I do know it takes longer to do an engine or suspension but when I had that stuff done, I didn't need to do anything other than call to find out when it would be ready.

I know the feeling. I haven't got to drive my car more than a few times all summer long. And it doesn't have anything to do with no A/C, either!

With all the fix-ups and projects I have done on my 73 I find that a little each spring and a lot during the fall keeps me on the road more then off. Of coase I haven't had to paint it yet and it wasn't in the cardsto be a perfect rebuild to factory specifcations. I just want to drive it knowing it will get me there and back without any major problems. Oh, and I have had it 12 years already.

I don't get much accomplished because of limited time. I agree that 5 hours at a time is MUCH better than 5 1-hour sessions. Seems like I spend at least half my time looking for stuff that I just had in my hand!

You have to devote 4 hour blocks of time to the Vette for work. That will allow you time to put the tools away and clean up the garage from the last time you were out there. Then you can start working on what ever it was you wanted to do to the Vette. After a few hours of good work on the Vette,(quiet solitude away from the family) the wife or kids will be calling for Dad, that's when you have to drop everything and go keep the peace. Looking forward to the next time I can escape to the garage.

Damn, I wish my Saturday's worked out like that. Seems like there is always something more important than the Vette. But, I don't need to drive it to work, that would light a fire under my lazy ***!

I'd never think about the garage again. You must be a young couple.
