dont think there is a easy way, im going to take mine off and take it to napa and compare it to a new one. that is the only sure way that i can think of to see if it has walked.
Is there anyway to tell if the harmonic balancer has walked by looking at it. REASON FOR REMOVAL COULD NOT SEE TIMMING MARK WITH LIGHT.
There is a procedure for pinning the outer ring to the inner disk to prevent slippage. Probably more trouble than just getting a new one.
If you think your balancer is sound but has merely slipped you can get a balancer cover from Jegs for 35 bucks that will correctly index the mark in relation to the 3 front bolt holes. That's the easiest solution. Lots of people screw up cranks swapping balancers so thats the primary risk.
Well i bought a new one and installed it when you compair them you can see how much it had slipped with the new one on the timing was about 1" above the 16 mark took it back to 10 have to reset the carb settings. won't know all the resaults untill I get the new rad in hopefully wed or thrusday. it has been this way for a while still ran ok.
but I have less then 300 miles on this one, so maybe I don't know what ok is. will let you know later....
