82s came with the same iron bore calipers that came with 68-82.
I read a story from I think Hib Halverson, where he mentioned that it was the aftermarket responding to the need that came up with SS sleeved calipers. This goes back to the early to mid 80s.
I believe that OEM lip seals should be discontinued and only O-ring pistons offered. The reliability-safety alone should be enough reason for this. I think all modern brakes use only O-ring seals.
