Anyone know what features on a master brake cylinder will tell me if I should have power brakes or standard brakes? I have the quad-piston calipers on 4-wheel disc brakes. If I have standard brakes can I replace it with a power brake?
A power brake master should be 1 1/8" bore and standard 1" bore. A power brake conversion requires more than just a new master, you will need a pump, and other items. Do a search for threads started by Gator79, that should tell you what is needed for conversion.
If your going to go to power brakes, I would seriously concider going with Hydroboost. Its a hydraulic powered gizmo that goes between the brake pedal and MC, it is powered off the PS pump. Get a MC for power brakes, and put it together. I would also put in a O-ring kit, all 4 wheels about $150
Not real clear on the question, but if you're asking if your car is eqipped with power brakes or not...
Large "drum" between master cylinder and firewall is power brake booster. If it's there, you have power brakes. If not, you need a power booster and appropriate master cylinder, often sold together.
Then you need an intake manifold or carburetor vacuum source for the power booster. I'm not sure what the poster meant when he said "pump"...
My bad. I started to suggest that he convert to power brakes with a Hydoboost and pointed out that he would need a PS pump. Then I edited the post to remove the Hydoboost stuff because I thought it would be confusing. Forgot to take out the pump reference (to confuse things further).
I'm not really sure if the original poster is looking to improve his brakes or identify what they are.
