Default Storms took my GTO!!!

Well, I need a new GTO, the storms that hit Westchester, NY on Tuesday night claimed my 12 week old Spice Red GTO, the huge tree in front of my house crushed it...the roof was virtually cut in half. I have to say that the 10 minutes that storm lasted was THE most frightening thing I have every experienced, and it wasnt just high winds, it had to be a tornado the way it tracked a path through the neighbourhood, cutting some trees in half, my street looked like somehting out of a war movie this morning.
Geico are on there way out tomorrow morning, and I have spoken to the dealer to try and track me down another GTO.

Nick

sorry to hear about the car but the main thing is that its just material items that got damaged and you are here to tell us about it.

it could have been a straight line wind also, went through one of these
here in hamilton about 10 years ago, and yes i have to say it was scary
snapped a telephone pole about 6 feet from the ground, tore trees out of the ground, pulled roofs off.
worst part was the wires from the pole ended up dangling about
1 ft from the roof of my garage where my restored 69 coronet 440
resided and it took them 2 days to come and repait it.

good luck with the clean up

Wow Nick that is amazing. Having been to your house I know there are some big trees there. That is a shame about the car. That is just plain Ugly.

Looking at the bark it looks like a locust tree. Certainly not strong rooted but nothing would be in the middle of a tornado. sorry about the GTO.

Looks like you'll have firewood for the winter though.

Dang...sorry to hear/see that. Glad everyone is OK.

Storms like that are far too common here in North Alabama. We've got several large tress on our lot and I always pray and keep my fingers crossed during the storms. The summer shade and brilliant fall colors are worth the trade off but I know one day the wind will win...

Man - That just plain sucks.
Tell the insurance co. I'll buy the drivetrain.
And the wheels and tires.

I hate to see pictures like that but it sounds at least like no one was hurt. I hope there were some nice cars in the garage, I hate to see people pull their cars right up to their garage doors, but leave them outside because the garage is full of junk. Good luck on getting a replacement.

Make sure they total it! If it's that new and the frame went untouched I could see them trying to fix it.

My wife is a loss auditor for a top insurance company. Let me know if you would like an informed opinion on your estimate.

Well Geico where here and they are considering fixing it....dont know how that makes sense as the car needs :-

2 front fenders,
2 comlete doors,
roof
rear quarters
hood
trunk
complete leather interior (water and tree damage)
and a complete repaint.

If they do make me repair it, then its getting a RMR front spoiler and "real flames" in orange! (mainly because I guess this repair will go down as a "major repair" on carfax and effect its re-sale value!)

That is scary! And a 12 week old car..

Are you dealing with car insurance or does it have to be covered by homeowners? Is it covered by comprehensive coverage... I don't think it's collision? Have they officially totaled it yet? It would be a drag if they insisted on repairing it. Good luck. We had some thunderstorms the other night with hail and my wife raced to swap the old beaters out of the garage and put the new car inside.

I would really fight GIECO on this one. Aren't those GTO"s unibody cars? If so the roof is as intregal as the frame.

You are correct with a car fax on the damage that car will be forever compromised upon resale. The repairs must be disclosed every time that car is resold by a licsensed dealer. They have to check and will check whenever you want to trade it.

WOW.. a 12 week old car, and now totalled by the storm. That is a sad sight to see, especially after the time you had to wait for the car, or spend driving around looking for it.

But the upside is you are ok to write about it.
