I am in the process of installing new front carpet and was wondering how any of the forum members trimed the front carpet for a good fit. The new fronts I recieved are extra roomy and I need to trim it down to fit. I have layed the old carpet over the new, but it was cut wrong and don't wantr to go down that road again.
Go to the hardware store and buy some "hook" blades for your retractable utility knife. These blades make trimming carpet a breeze. Just lay the carpet in place and cut it a little large, you can trim off more if you need to.

Thanks, LandShark
Just put new front and rear carpet in my '69 convertible.
It is really kind of self explanatory while you're doing the install. Put it in place and you'll see where you have to trim a little. Just trim it a little at a time between trial fits and you will be fine. Front carpet is really pretty easy. The rear is a little more difficult.
Make sure you trim the seat bolt holes out or you'll never find them when re-installing your seats. Find the holes by poking with a punch and then trim out about a 1/2 inch hole.
And, remove your console if you haven't already. Old carpet can be pulled without removing it but it would be tough to re-install new carpet with it in.
I just did my whole '78. Put it in and trim slowly and carefully as needed much like home carpet installers do. You may want to consider adding reflective insualtion as well. You can buy the foil faced roll out insulation at most every home improvement store. I can't believe the difference in heat control.

Maybe like this?
Also had this hinge to deal with. Drivers side upper. What a PITA!!
One other tip when installing the carpet. Instead of drilling holes in the carpet for the seat mounting bolts, just cut an "X" over the hole with your carpet knife. The "flaps" will lift up to reveal the mounting holes. Much nicer way to accomplish the same thing.
