I won a rear package tray And the roll thing.I won it at 26.00 and with shipping it came to 42.61.Now he emails me and said he got the shipping wrong and it's going to cost 108.00 shipping.I told him that if he had posted the 108.00 in his auction I wouldn't have even put in a bid.Man thats 4 times the price for my item.My question is. Is the deal off because he changed the shipping after the auction ended.I told him that I don't want it if that was the new shipping price was.He hasn't replied to my email so I sent him another email tonight.I told him to take it to Garyhound.Their shipping is pretty cheap..I say the auction is nulled and void what to you all think?
Sounds like he sold his items too cheap and is now trying to get out of the deal by hiking up the shipping. If he changes the terms the deal is a no go unless your willing to pay. You could back out and it would be legit but he can still leave you bad feedback and vica versa. Keep all your emails and messages in case he files a claim with ebay for a non paying bidder.
What is the item number? How big/heavy is the item? From what your describing its not what I thought it was. Also find out where he is and maybe someone on the forum can pick it up and really stick him and ship it to you at cost.
Worse case is you're dealing with a guy who turns out to be unreasonable and won't void the sale. You end up getting negative feedback and so does he. You don't HAVE to buy the item. No one can make you buy it. I agree with you though. You can't change the shipping that drastically and expect someone to not question it.
I think that your next steps depend on a number of things. First, do you really need the tray? If you really want this item, I'd suggest working it out at a price that you can live with. Insane shipping price or not, try to be objective and pay what you're willing to pay.
If you don't really need/want the tray, then I'd suggest asking the seller to void the sale based on the significant change in the cost of shipping. The only risk that you have left is, as Jake suggested, getting dinged by EBay and negative feedback. These can also be worked out through an arbitrator, but it takes time and effort. One thought that occured to me is that if the seller acceps Paypal, just pay for the item at the previously agreed price and shipping. Put the seller in the position of having to not ship. Iin this way, there is no case for a non paying bidder complaint and not much of a case for negative feedback, though he can always do that anyways. By using Paypal, at least you can get your money back if the parts are never delivered.
My dealings with ebay have been great. He's the way I look at it. If it was listed buyer pays all shipping fees, then you must pay. If he had a flat fee for shipping, he is responsible. There has been cases when items seem fairly cheap, but the buyer did not pay attention to the shipping. Not saying that this is the case, but it can happen. If you do have a good disput get in LIVE CHAT with ebay and tell them the issue.

i disagree to a point if it says "buyer pays all shipping fees" and he quoted him the lower price or had the shipping calculator set wrong then its the sellers fault and thats what it should ship for.
its the sellers responsibility to make sure they have shipping and weights
figured correctly before posting.
once the auction ends and a price was quoted thats what it should be
and if you contact Ebay regarding it i believe they will also agree.
i also dont believe you should pay and if he wants to go the non paying bidder route this also gives you a opportunity to respond to Ebay with his shipping quote.
too many people on Ebay like to make up losses with shipping charges
which is why i never bid before asking how much especially if they dont quote a price in the auction.
Wait till he responds. If he screwed up the shipping cost, he should cancel the deal. No reason for anyone to leave negative feedback due to a mistake.
I have no idea what the "rear package tray And the roll thing" is. Is it reasonably that these items would cost $108 to ship? If you really need the items, maybe you could arrange the shipping. I heard of others shipping via Greyhound. The problem with that is they do not have drop off places like UPS. The seller may may to drive 30 miles one way to get it there.
why don't you post the link so we can actually look at it, and see what he says for shipping?
does this guy have good feedback, or does this 'shipping thing' go back aways, were he has a history of doing this?
if he misquoted you on the shipping, and you can't work something out, it's his loss. if you have a good feedback rating, people will probably see this as someone trying to get over on you, and shouldn't reflect to poorly on you, especially given the fact you CAN respond to his negative feedback, and explain what he tried doing to you.
It's the rear tray that is under the back window of 78-up Vettes and the roll thing is the part that you pull over the back storage area to hide anything up might put back there while shopping ect.I don't really need it I was buying as a spare the price was cheap and the parts were in great shape except the pull handle had been broke off.No big deal.I was more interested in the other part.I will see if I can find the item. It was just about a week ago so it's still there.I still agree with you that the deal is dead. The only thing is the feed back thing. He only sent me one e-mail about the shipping change.I responded to his question. No return reply yet,so I emailed him again yesterday.Still nothing back from him.I think he knows he is in a bind and it's his fault,so we will see what happens
He has a shipping calculator, so I think he is on the hook. I once had to eat about 10 bux extra shipping because the calculator for UPS was wrong..That's part of the game..Try to work something out, but don't buy it if you don't think you're getting value. $108 bux seems high, I shipped a lift kit for a jeep, springs, shocks, and overload leafs for half that...Guys that jack up shipping just to cover the item's cost give Ebay a bad name. Ok a worse name...Good Luck,
His shipping calc, told me it would be 18 bux to ship it to PA, now i belive hes just trying to make more money off of you. You should see if a member in KY can go pick it up for you and just have the member ship it to you??
You can get a quote from Greyhound. They are very reasonable for oversize items. If not just have him agree to cancel the contract with no neg feedback since he screwed up.
Yeah thats what I told him to do(Greyhound)I also told him I was not interested in the item if it going to cost me triple what it's worth. He hasen't got back with me yet.But I pretty sure I've got ebay behind me.I'm going to go to that chatroom thing.
i ran the calculator also and it came to 16.82 to ship to NJ
he is definitely ripping you off on the shipping, the parts didnt bring
what he wanted so he is trying to screw you.
i hate to say it but i would report him to Ebay regarding this, those parts
dont weigh nearly that much and arent really oversized.
fedex ground would bring them without a problem.
