OK, now I have my vette LS1 and have to decide how I'm going to mount it. Seems like most guy's are using an offset adapter to do this. I know this would be the easy way but I would like to keep the complete serpentine belt drive. The only thing in the way is the A/C compressor on the bottom. So, I was thinking of hacking out the original frame mounts, getting a set out of a salvage C5, and cut, weld, grind and curse in a new set of frame mounts.
Before I go to the trouble of doing all the measuring, aligning and hanging the engine over the frame just to find out I won't gain anything anyway. I'd like to here from some of you LS1 guy's out there. Has anyone done it like this? Am I being stupid for thinking like this?
I welcome all feedback, even the smartass ones (as long as there funny to somebody).
Pics from any C3 LS1 in the car would be great. Especially if somebody has some from underneath.
Thanks

I looked at using a Corvette's mounts and they were all over the A-arms if I remember right. Anyway, There was no even remotely simple way to mount it using the C5 mounts.

As for the accessories, the Camaro accessories will bolt right to the car accept for the AC which you can purchase a bracket for it from S&P. I'm using a Corvette engine with a C5 Magnuson supercharger and some modified Camaro brackets that line it up with the pulleys on the Vette. I think you can get the entire front system off the Camaro for around $500.

Here's a pic of a friend's Camaro LS1 sitting in my frame with the offset adapter you were talking about.

Waste of time go that far. It would be easier to just hack out the sub-frame and make a tube one. Why, just to save a bunch of easy to replace brackets. I would sell the vette brackets and buy some F-Body brackets. Your going to need the time elsewhere.

Vettedan sells a great motor mount.

What's your email for pics.

There's a few pics in My Corvette Photos and on my website.

Thanks for the info guy's, I think ya'll saved me a lot of grief.

Great pic superjames. Sounds like you have an awsome setup. I'd eventually like to supercharge myself. Is it fast enough for you?

Budman- I checked out you pics, Great shots. I can be emailed by clicking on my avatar.

Pat- did you get your L88 hood yet? Keep me posted on that.

BTW- Can I use the Vette oil pan or do I need to get one from an f-body?

I think a few guys used the vette oil pan, becuase i asked the same thing but cant remember if they had stock steering or rack and pinion,im sure someone will chime back in again.Nope no hood yet, been busy working every weekend plus my little guy has been sick so taking care of him too.

Also if anyone needs a LS1 fbody alternator brackets i have an extra set for sale. And a c5 main belt tensioner almost new 350 miles and a balancer for a c5.

If it's a vette motor and you want to change to f-body brackets, you'll need to change the balancer pulley. There is a different offset between how much the vette pulley and f-body pulley stick out from the engine. I'd also stay away from S&P brackets, not the greatest quality. Stay stock or go with March. I've never had March but it has to be better than S&P.

Yo Pat, which brackets do you want to sell and how much?

Unfortuanetly I've run into quite a few little hassles here and there so it hasn't gotten much past where you see in the pic. I should have chassis complete in a month or so minus brakes. Still haven't decided on that

The Vette's pan won't work with the stock steering. Both work with R&P though. I believe, but I'm not sure, the F-Body will work with the stock steering.

I was thinking of changing to R&P anyway. If I can't use the stock vette belt set up, I will probably go with a complete marh system. The funny thing is, I specifically shopped for a vette engine because I thought the accessories would fit better than an f-body.

Are any of y'all running A/C right now? If so, I'd be interested in how you routed your hoses.

Thanks for all ya'lls help.

Ya, I bought a Vette engine thinking the same thing. Then, I made matters worse by buying a C5 supercharger off of Ebay instead of a hot rod style so then I HAD to use the balancer.

I'm going to try running the Street and Performance AC kit with the rear exit sanderson compressor. The only thing I'm worried about is whether I'll have adequate belt coverage on the supercharger pulley.

I just used the offset adapter plates - low cost, easy, everyone seems to use em.

I test fit my 01 vette engine and have one direction turn issues with the batwing oil pan and stock power steering (looks like if no power actuator would fit fine - but I like PS). Thinking of cutting the oil pan and welding (bubba max), or going F body pan (looks like would fit with stock ps).

I also am planning on trying to mod / fab brackets for upper pass side AC and upper driver side ALT (and ps and idlers). Don't want to have to change balancer and go f body brackets, but might end up that way.

Sure wish I had taken the advise to get complete f body LS1, but got a good deal on 01 vette LS1....

How much can you get for the vette brackets and pullys? I priced the march performance setup, $1300. I'm thinking it might be worth it to save the extra headaches. Plus, it does look nice.
BTW- How do I contact Vettedan?

I am using the stock F-body pan without notching it. Also I am using modified F-body brackets and moved the alternator to high on the driver's side.

Why did you move your altenator and what did you do with the power steering pump?
