After looking at Draven Lament's bird cage rust, should all of us that haven't taken our windshield apart be concerned that ours/mine is rusting away? I'm starting to get a little nervous as I have a little rust by my door hinges.
Pull the kick panels.
Try looking up under the dash.
The kick panels will reveal the #2 body mount in the BC. Rot will be obvious here.
Under the dash (corners) will usually show signs of rust if yours
has rusted through.
One of the first things i did when i picked up my 80 (4 years ago) was have the windshield removed. Found it to be quite solid and had only minor surface rust.
Am quite glad i did that after seeing all the posts about birdcage rust and the pains involved to repair.
Will the bird cage rust continue to eat away at the metal if I don't take things apart, if it's rusty which I'm sure it is? I paid to have the body off and it was put on a new complete rolling chasis with new body mounts a year ago. Believe me,I paid more than I wanted to. I thought I was done with rust but I guess I'm not.
