Default dipstick with headers

Yes, I may be a dipstick with headers, but my question is about the engine's dipstick. What secures the dipstick? Mine seems to swing in the breeze- I'm guessing it used to attach to the ram horns.

I don't have any problems with it, just thought it might be nice to secure it a little.

Thanks-
Andy

It should be a press fit into the hole. If it's loose, you can tap it slightly out of round so that is stays put when you press it back in...

OK-- thanks again for the info. I'll look at that tonight. Should there be a gasket on the dipstick holder? Or is that not really a source of oil leaks?

Oh boy.... I had this problem a few months ago... let me tell you about opening a can of worms...

It all started when I tried to slide my header down over the dipstick tube and gave it a nice bend. No problem I thought, just bend it back once the headers are on. Well, every time I checked the oil, I could feel a little wobble, then one day, it just fell off.

The tube is a two piece setup, on piece is inside in the bottom of the block into the pan, the other is the upper tube that is press fitted into the block. Mine just so happened to basically break flush with the block leaving just the press fit end inside the block. It took me hours to get it out. After trying everything, I ended up stuffing a foam earplug down the hole to keep s**t out, then I had to run a tap in the hole and put some threads in. If I remember correclty, I ended up using a metric tap because it was the perfect fit. I then got a bolt with the same thread and ground the head down so I could fit a slide hammer on the end of the bolt. Last step, screw the bolt into the newly cut threads, put the slide hammer on, and pound it out. What a PITA....

Good luck, because if its loose, your most likely going to have to replace it.
