Default Windshield wiper door actuator

The windshield wiper door actually works (well it did, as my engine compartment is now empty) on my car. It's the early 1969 giant can style. The cannister itself is dented, bent, and rusted. Does anyone sell just the outside cannister so that I can replace it instead of buying a whole new actuator? I can't seem to find one at the usual suspects.

Thanks

They are sealed units. Not sure they can be rebuilt. When they fail, most folks just replace them.

Darn. Works like a champ, just looks really bad. Will the late '69 wiper door actuator swap in?

You could do bodywork on it and then prime and paint it,or spend $120 for a new one.

Yes, but I believe you will need to use a different "turnbuckle" type nut to join the two shafts as they are not matching sizes on one of the combinations (does that make sense?).

The bracket that mounts to the firewall is also different.

The rod coming off the actuator is the same..the 68's used a smaller diameter rod off the back of the actuator. You will need the late 69 and up mounting bracket.

Sorry, I thought the 68 and early 69 had the same size rods and the late 69 was the larger (same size rod on the actuator and door). Live and learn!

Yes, that one - but my point may be moot if in fact the rods are the same on early and late......

not legth, but diameter perhaps

the old can style came with two different thread diameters, the late one was larger, i beleive the larger dia, was the same size and the newer style canister, but that is what you will have to check

aslo the bracket as stated above

Looks like the solution here is clear. Paint the dented and bent housing, wait for it to fail and then worry about it!
