Hello, I just purchased a 1985 stock Corvette. It has 51k and runs great. While cruising my temp is around 90. As soon as I get into stop and go traffic she rises to 230. Is this normal and at what temp should i be concerned.
Thanks
Is your fan running? It should come on at close to 230. You can get a different switch to make it come on earlier. 230 isn't unusual for an 85 in stop and go traffic.

Easy there Steve ... not much difference from 83 to 85.
... and 79 was the height of gold-chain disco-vettes.
I have heard that the early C4s have issues with leaves and stuff
collecting in the front/bottom of the radiator. Try cleaning here
first and verify that the electric fan comes on when she is at 230.

The secondary fan is programmed to come on at 228 degrees. Once you see 230 it should start to cool off a bit to around 210 while in traffic. Once you start moving along it should cool down to about 190. That is about normal for an 85.
